JULY: Accessible Backbends Part 2

Due to the success of the previous Accessible Backbends workshop in May, I’ll be running another workshop in July. Prior attendance not necessary, only a basic experience in yoga (5 or more classes).

Backbends with Wall

Backbending, more commonly named ‘chest opening’ has multiple benefits. Opening the heart is invigorating and energizing. It’s uplifting and releasing. Opening the front of the body stimulates digestive function and opens the body for deep diaphragmatic breathing. Spinal movement preserves the health of the vertebrae and spinal discs, as well as improves posture. Not only this, but heart-opening is very mentally freeing!

In this 2 hour session we will safely explore common and less-common backbends variations. The session will include strengthening the core and lumbar spine for full backbend support. The poses will systematically open the front-line of the body to allow deeper opening, whilst safely maintaining equilibrium by taking counter-poses throughout (i.e. forward folding). We will explore variation of backbend postures to leave you feeling informed and confident for your ongoing yoga practise.

AUGUST: What The Chatturanga?

Feel like some yoga-speak is a different language?

Think your vinyasa transitions could do with some attention?

Join me in August for a Chatturanga-focused yoga workshop (2 hours).

IMG_2365.JPG

Chatturanga, or variations of it, are a central part of a vinyasa flow yoga class. The movement with the breath, the seamless flow of postures and the variety of physical poses, means it can be easy to ignore alignment in the faster-moving asanas.

It doesn’t have to be that way! Shoulder strength is important, but shoulder alignment is vital. Only if you are practising your transitions safely will you avoid injury and develop your yoga practise.

Join me in July where we’ll break down all elements of a typical ‘vinyasa’ transition. From the basic variations to the full chatturanga variations, we’ll focus on correct posture analysis and work on shoulder and arm strength, with an ultimate aim to clear up confusion in this area, so that you’re free to take on any transition you wish…safely!

This workshop is available to anyone who has been to 5 or more yoga classes.
